balancing act
collaboration with the poet laureate, simon armitage, at national trust brimham rocks, north yorkshire. letter carving by richard dawson.
the installation is positioned where the rocks meet the moors – the subject of simon’s poem. the two columns are the same dimensions as farm gate posts from nearby, the text wraps around the stone prompting the reader to step through from one landscape to the other.
test cut with at the national trust’s stone masons team at studley royal. the typography consciously avoids heritage cliches by blending contemporary type design and layout with traditional attention to detail.
